Why this matters
Most Canadian Muslims die without a valid Islamic will. When that happens, provincial intestacy laws distribute the estate according to civil rules that bear little resemblance to Faraid — a spouse may inherit everything, children's shares may be equal regardless of sex, and the 1/3 wasiyyah for charity never happens.
At the same time, generic will-writing tools ignore Faraid entirely. And hiring an estates lawyer plus a scholar to work in tandem is expensive and logistically hard.

A 12-step wizard walks you through your personal details, family members, assets and debts, funeral wishes, executor choice, and charitable bequests. Every question comes with plain-language guidance explaining the Islamic or legal reason behind it. Your answers are auto-saved as you go.

The Faraid engine calculates your heirs' shares
Our inheritance engine applies the fixed Quranic shares (4:11, 4:12, 4:176), blocking rules (hajb), ʿawl and radd adjustments, and impediments — then presents you with an exact-fraction breakdown of every heir's entitlement. You cannot override these shares; they are your religious obligation.

Review province-specific guidance
Every Canadian province has different will-execution rules. Ontario and most common-law provinces require two independent witnesses. Quebec offers three forms of will and strongly recommends a notarial will that skips probate. The wizard surfaces the rules that apply to you and highlights risks such as dependant-support claims and beneficiary-designation conflicts.

About Islamic inheritance (Faraid)
Faraid (فرائض) is the Islamic science of inheritance, derived primarily from Quran 4:11, 4:12, and 4:176. It prescribes fixed fractional shares for a defined set of heirs and a residuary system for the remainder. The shares cannot be changed by the testator — they are a religious obligation, not a recommendation.
The mWill engine follows the majority Sunni consensus position. Key rules encoded:
- Fixed shares (fard) for spouses, parents, daughters, and uterine siblings
- Residuary (asabah) distribution to sons, fathers, brothers, and their lines
- Blocking (hajb): a closer heir excludes a more distant one
- ʿAwl: proportional reduction when fixed shares exceed the estate
- Radd: surplus redistribution to non-spouse fard heirs when no residuaries exist
- Impediments: non-Muslim heirs and heirs who unlawfully killed the testator are excluded
- Wasiyyah wajibah: suggested bequest for orphaned grandchildren of a predeceased child
⚠ Scholar verification required — The engine's outputs are a starting point, not a fatwa. All Faraid results must be reviewed by a qualified Islamic scholar (faqih with specialisation in fara'id) before the will is signed and relied upon. mWill displays this notice on every Faraid result page and in every generated document.
What mWill is not
Not a law firm. mWill prepares documents; it does not provide legal advice. Provincial laws change, court decisions create new risks, and your personal situation may have complexities — blended families, business assets, foreign property, dependants — that require a lawyer or notary to navigate safely.
Not a fatwa service. The Faraid engine follows documented scholarly consensus but has not been certified by a specific scholar or institution. You should have the results reviewed by a qualified faqih whose opinion you trust before acting on them.
Not a probate replacement. The signed original paper will (or notarial will in Quebec) is the legal document your estate will need. A digital copy stored with mWill is a convenience; it does not substitute for the original.
Not yet production-ready. This platform is in pre-production. Provincial templates and the Faraid engine have not yet been verified by licensed professionals. Do not use this platform for real wills until all verification gates have been passed and the PRE-PRODUCTION banner is removed by the platform administrator.
